Salvia pachyphylla has a number of common names including Mountain Desert Sage,
Blue Sage, and Thick-Leaved Sage. As a member of the Mint Family (Lamiaceae) it produces that distinctively
fresh minty smell that most people recognize. Native American groups used it to treat flu symptoms and it is said to produce a number of interesting compounds. This plant is native to
California and its range extends a little ways into Nevada, Arizona, and Mexico. Two strongholds are found
in the San Bernardino Mountains and in the southern Sierra Nevada range.
